Why do we need to focus on Women’s Health?
While women in the UK on average live longer than men, women spend a significantly greater proportion of their lives in ill health and disability when compared with men. And while women make up 51% of the population, historically the health and care system has been designed by men for men.
We live in the best of times. For those of us in advanced countries, women have rights and a standard of living that our ancestors could hardly have imagined.
We must also face the fact that this is a challenging time for women’s health. Life expectancy is high, but rates of most diseases have increased, especially for women — and it’s not just because we’re living longer.
We need to look after ourselves, just like when the oxygen mask drops, put it on your face first. Look after yourself, don’t suffer in silence, we are here to help.

Milly King, Chartered Physiotherapist with ND Clinical Pilates at Surrey Holistic
Women’s health physiotherapy is a specialised field addressing conditions specific to women, such as pelvic floor disorders, prenatal & postnatal issues, & musculoskeletal challenges. This includes;
– Incontinence
– Pelvic organ prolapse
– Vulvodynia
– Pelvic pain
– Advice & treatment during & after pregnancy
But, there is so much more to the pelvic floor! Before, & alongside, specialising in Women’s Health I have worked as a musculoskeletal physio for nearly 20 years. Women are frequently being advised they need to strengthen their core and do pelvic floor exercises but often have no idea if they are doing it right! The pelvic floor is the foundation of our core muscle system & it provides stability to our pelvis & hips. As a result, through biomechanics & the fascial system it can have an impact on many other injuries.
I use targeted exercises, manual techniques, exercises & education to promote optimal relaxation, function & strength of the pelvic floor muscles, manage pregnancy-related concerns, & improve overall well-being in women of all ages.
As a certified Mummy MOT practitioner I am licensed to work under the trusted Mummy MOT brand to provide mums with a comprehensive assessment, summary report & bespoke treatment plan to help them achieve their postnatal goals.
I am also trained in scar therapy, using specialist massage techniques, and lymphatic drainage & am certified to use LymphaTouch, a negative pressure device to manipulate scar tissue & swelling. I work with my clients from the early stages of scar healing to more mature scars to optimise their healing outcomes.
Please find out more about Milly and her range of treatments here.

As a fully qualified aromatherapist, massage therapist, yoga & mobility teacher, personal trainer, mindset coach, and NLP Practitioner, I specialise in working 1:1 with women, supporting them holistically to become more aware of and connected to their bodies on a physical, mental, and emotional level.
My experience spans from the early stages of pregnancy through labour, all the way to menopause, helping women manage symptoms, boost energy, and improve confidence no matter where they are in life. Additionally, I have extensive experience supporting women with hypermobility and chronic pain, including conditions such as fibromyalgia, providing tailored approaches to improve well-being and enhance quality of life.

Homeopathy at Surrey Holistic, with Vinciane Ollington of Complete Homeopathy.co.uk
Homeopathy for Women’s Health – YOUR HORMONES AFFECT YOU EVERY DAY OF THE MONTH.
When they’re out of balance, it impacts your mood, energy and your confidence too. This starts in your adolescence and can last well after your menopause. Sadly, these days the phytoestrogen in plastic products plays a part in your hormonal health as do the synthetic hormones you have taken either in the form of contraceptive pill,
Mirena coil, fertility drugs or HRT. Homeopathy, a gentle therapy which work in harmony with your body, aims to restore balance and vitality from within. During my 22 years of practice, I have helped many women overcome their hormonal imbalance and lead a happier, easier life as a result.

Tatiana Mercier at Surrey Holistic Centre
While women’s youthful hormones progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone decrease from their thirties, one important hormone refuses to decline, and instead goes up, contributing to an accelerated aging process. This hormone is cortisol.
The most common symptoms of high cortisol levels are:
· Weight gain especially around the middle
· High blood pressure (hypertension)
· Muscle weakness (flat buttocks, weak-skinny legs, back pain)
· Anxiety, feelings of being constantly under pressure
· Frequent colds, flus, infections
· High blood sugar
· Feeling tired and wired
· Low libido
· Slow wound healing and poor immune response
Once the adrenal glands, which secrete cortisol, have been forced to produce abnormal levels of cortisol for an extended period of time, cortisol levels drop, and in many cases, the cortisol curve becomes flat.
Symptoms of low cortisol are:
· Fatigue, especially upon wakening (getting out of bed seems impossible)
· Poor appetite
· Dizziness (in between meals, upon standing from a chair, etc.)
· Depressive states, sadness, lack of
enthusiasm, low libido
· Reduced muscle mass (poor muscle tone and reduced strength)
· Weight loss or weight gain
· Low blood pressure
· Low blood sugar (this can lead to constant hunger in spite of regular meals)
Cortisol levels are measured in blood by the NHS, but this approach produces inaccurate readings. In Functional Medicine, cortisol and adrenal function are tested in saliva, which allows for accurate results.
If you present with a combination of the above symptoms, please get in touch with Tatiana.
