Breast Thermography

Breast health is one of the biggest health challenges for women in the UK. Women in the UK who were born after 1960 have an estimated 1 in 7 risk of developing breast cancer in their lifetime. Consequently, we recommend checking your breast health regularly using Thermography which does not use radiation or compression.

What is Breast Thermography?

Breast Thermography uses infrared photography to create a thermogram, or an image of the breast area, revealing heat patterns that can indicate abnormalities like infection, inflammation or other pathology. Breast abnormalities can have abnormal blood vessel patterns and increased metabolic activity that give off more heat than the surrounding tissue. Analysis of these heat patterns can enable early intervention and reduction of risk.

What are the benefits?

  1. The Thermography procedure can be repeated as often as required as there is no compression and no radiation. This allows regular breast health checks with low risk.
  2. Thermography does not replace Mammography as a cancer diagnostic tool, but it can be a useful adjunct to mammography for women with dense breasts (especially younger women) or where other tests present difficulties.
